Managing Unsubscribes
Understanding how unsubscribes work and how to maintain a healthy email list.
How Unsubscribes Work
Automatic Compliance
When someone clicks the unsubscribe link, Sendifai automatically marks them as unsubscribed. They will no longer receive marketing emails from you—this is required by law and handled automatically.
What Happens When Someone Unsubscribes
- 1Contact clicks unsubscribe link in any email
- 2Contact is shown a confirmation page (customizable in Settings)
- 3Contact's status changes to "Unsubscribed" immediately
- 4Contact is automatically excluded from all future marketing emails
- 5Contact remains in your database (not deleted) for record-keeping
Viewing Unsubscribed Contacts
From Contacts Page
Go to Contacts → Use the Status filter → Select Unsubscribed.
Campaign-Specific Unsubscribes
View who unsubscribed from a specific campaign in Campaigns → Select campaign → Reports → Unsubscribes tab.
Export Unsubscribed List
Filter contacts by unsubscribed status, then use the Export button to download as CSV.
Can Contacts Re-subscribe?
Important
You cannot manually re-subscribe someone. The contact must actively choose to subscribe again (e.g., via a signup form) to ensure compliance with email regulations.
How Contacts Can Re-subscribe
- Fill out a signup form on your website
- Send you an email requesting to be re-added (you can then send them a confirmation link)
- Update their preferences via your preference centre (if they only unsubscribed from certain lists)
Reducing Unsubscribe Rates
Some unsubscribes are healthy—they keep your list engaged. But if your rate is above 0.5%, consider these strategies:
Set Clear Expectations
Tell subscribers what they'll receive and how often when they sign up. Mismatched expectations drive unsubscribes.
Don't Email Too Often
Overwhelming subscribers is the top reason people unsubscribe. Find a sustainable frequency.
Provide Value
Every email should offer something useful—information, inspiration, or opportunity. Avoid purely promotional content.
Use a Preference Centre
Instead of full unsubscribe, offer options to receive fewer emails or specific content types.
Pro Tips
- • An unsubscribe is better than a spam complaint—don't hide the link.
- • Monitor which campaigns have high unsubscribe rates to identify problems.
- • Consider a brief exit survey to understand why people leave.
